Staying At The Forefront Of Asbestos Analysis
On 4th April, new regulations for managing the risks of asbestos came into effect. This marks the end of a two year “grace period” following 2016 changes to New Zealand’s Health and Safety regulations. Like any significant change in regulation, industry partners are keen to understand what is required of them and ensure that they are able to practically achieve new regulatory requirements.
As a key industry support partner, Hill Laboratories is proud to have been integrally involved in providing technical advice to WorkSafe New Zealand and BRANZ through ALGA and the New Zealand Asbestos Advisory Group. The work includes a New Zealand-specific guidance document “The New Zealand Guidance for Assessing and Managing Asbestos in Soil” (commonly called BRANZ), which provides a road map through New Zealand regulatory framework.
The development of the BRANZ guidance has given consultants the opportunity to offer sustainable, pragmatic remedial solutions for their clients, and with Hill’s involvement we have ensured that the associated technical capabilities are available and aligned with industry needs. This combination of practical industry guidance designed for New Zealand’s unique requirements, and Hill Laboratories extensive asbestos analysis capabilities, means that consultants now have conveniently available access to testing services that they know will meet their clients regulatory requirements.
