Staff Profile - Kim Murell

With a love of both sport science and chemistry, Kim Murrell wasn’t sure what she wanted to study at university – but while considering her options she jumped at the chance to start working at Hill Laboratories. Nine years later, it’s safe to say she made the right choice and found her place.

That desire to take on new opportunities has consistently followed Kim throughout her time at Hill Labs. Over the years she has seen incredible growth and development, spending time working in six different roles across a range of teams and sectors – starting as a Technician in Pesticides Residues and ending up in the Sales and Marketing team with her current position as Key Account Manager for Honey.

She loves that you can be sitting at home, watching the news and there will be something that connects back to her work – from weather events, changes in industry requirements or helping a local community.

While she’s incredibly passionate about the work she does in the lab and with clients, she also has a few hidden (speedy) talents up her sleeve. Challenge Kim to a race and she will likely outrace you, as she was once a New Zealand Track and Field champion – with a few track records under her belt!

Those who have worked with Kim, will know she loves working in honey sector as it’s such a dynamic area of the business. Her natural speed also proves useful in her role as Key Account Manager.

‘You need to be quick on your toes. Working closely with customers, I need to clearly understand their needs and be able to adapt to those needs quickly and in a considered manner’.

Outside of work, you might find Kim sitting on the shores of Lake Tarawera in her hometown of Rotorua – probably one of her favourite books keeping her company.
