Staff Profile - Jane Sherrard

After studying at both Massey University and the University of Otago, and a stint overseas, I returned to NZ with the intention of working in a commercial laboratory, something I hadn’t done before. With its strong reputation and breadth of testing services, Hill Laboratories was the obvious choice and some sixteen years later, I’m still here!
I started as a Section Manager for the Water Chemistry teams and thoroughly enjoyed both the staff management aspect along with the excitement of introducing new tests and services into operations. After spending ten years in this role, and having some time off to have my son Isaac, I made the move into commercial to work in our client services team.
My current role as Market Sector Manager for our Environmental Division (encompassing a range of water and soil testing) is extremely exciting and rewarding. I am able to see firsthand the impact of delivering results to our clients that enable them to make the most effective decisions for their own organisations, projects or businesses. It also feels good to know that we have contributed significantly to the environmental data set of New Zealand. Recently, with the acquisition of Hilltop Software, we have been visiting Regional Council users nationwide and it has been a real privilege to spend time with NZ’s data managers and to see how passionate they are about curating and managing quality environmental data.
The best thing about Hill Laboratories to me is the people I work with - it is great to work with like minded individuals that are committed to both their clients and to their internal teams.
On the weekends, you’ll find me either watching my son’s football, gardening, dog-walking, or on one of the great cycling trails that are available in Hamilton - a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon, especially if a coffee stop is made along the way!
