Expanding our Vine to Vintage Testing Service
Hill Laboratories recently gained IANZ accreditation for Grapevine leafroll-associated virus 3 (GLRaV-3) testing, thereby expanding our extensive Vine to Vintage testing service. This expansion of our viticulture testing capability follows the recent acquisition of the assets of the Napier-based Vine Testing Laboratory (VTL) from family business Ormond Nurseries.
Grapevine leafroll viruses can cause serious repercussions for plant productivity, reducing yield by up to 50% by disrupting the flow of nutrients to the shoots and leaves. The virus can also stunt vine growth. These infections can be tricky to deal with, as to the untrained eye they are often difficult to detect. Hill Laboratories will help growers by testing all new vines which will remove the guesswork when looking for these viruses.
The addition of this service enables Hill Laboratories to offer a full complement of tests to New Zealand grape growers and winemakers. We are also the only independent lab offering this vine virus testing in New Zealand.
The new service will be provided at our Blenheim laboratory, which is focused on providing testing services for the wine and viticulture industries.
We pride ourselves on our fast, accurate reporting and industry-leading turnaround times, in part due to the state-of-the-art instruments we have in our labs and the expertise we have in running them. We intend to offer virus testing results in just five working days. These quick turn-around times allow growers to be in better positioned to plan and make critical decisions.
