What is the day like at work in the F & B Team?

I’m a Client Services Manager for the Food & Bioanalytical Division and spend most of my day answering client queries by phone and e-mail, preparing quotes, seeking out potential new opportunities, working on tenders or proposals for project work, ensuring submission forms are up to date, monitoring sales and client feedback and liaising between the laboratory and the client to ensure everyone has the right information!

How have you progressed through the organisation?

Yes, I started at Hills in 1997 as a lab assistant for the Organics Team in the Environmental Division. After a couple of years, I transferred to the newly formed Food & Crops (now F&B) team, which eventually grew so much it became a separate division. I was Team Leader for the Pesticide Residues Prep Lab for about five years and then moved into Client Services in 2008.

What is Hill Laboratories like as a place to work?

I work closely with a number of industries, including horticultural export crops such as apples and kiwifruit, honey, dairy and wine, as well as many others. It’s one of my favourite things to get out on the road and meet clients face to face – it really helps me gain a better understanding of what they do and how we can better meet their testing requirements.
I have great colleagues, the people I work with are amazing and it’s wonderful to have such supportive (and funny!) workmates. I really enjoy my job, even though it has its challenges and occasional frantic phone calls!
