Testing of Fish & Shellfish

About this Testing

Hill Laboratories is a LAS accredited laboratory with a wide range of tests to support the fishing and aquaculture industries. Fish, Shellfish (such as mussels, oysters, clams) and even seaweed are tested for compliance against domestic and/or export requirements. Commonly conducted analyses include chemistry testing for Maximum Residue Levels (MRL’s) particularly heavy metals, and Microbiological testing to ensure food safety.

Chemistry Testing

The main types of Chemistry tests that we provide for the Fish & Aquaculture industries are as follows:

  • Multi residue GC Test – 240+ pesticides
  • LCMSMS1 multiresidue test
  • Heavy metals
  • Elements (e.g. Cd & Hg)


Microbiological Testing

The main types of Microbiological tests we provide for the Fish & Aquaculture industries are as follows:

  • Aerobic plate count
  • Salmonella
  • Listeria monocytogenes
  • Faecal coliforms
  • E.coli
  • Vibrio parahaemolyticus
  • Vibrio cholerae
  • Staphylococcus aureus
