Introduction

Hill Laboratories is now the first MAF Approved Containment Facility at both the Hamilton Clyde Street and Innovation Park Analytical Laboratory Sites. This allows importation of various sample types and now includes Restricted Sample Types (New Organisms or GMO) from any Country, provided they are accompanied with the correct documentation.

Permits for Importing Laboratory Specimens

General Overseas Samples

For general NON-Restricted Overseas Samples, a copy of the relevant Import Permit must accompany the consignment by placing in a clear envelope on the outside of the parcel, along with a declaration notice including sample description and analysis required.

Refer to the following appropriate documents for full instructions and include these with your consignment

Restricted Overseas Samples

For Restricted Sample Types, (I.E. Genetically Modified or New Organisms) stricter control is required for these sample types and ERMA Approval Codes need to be attached on the outside of the consignment also. Refer to this document for full details:

Important Points to Note when Sending Overseas Samples

Before overseas samples are submitted, the following points should be considered to save rejection by MAF at the border:

You can download a copy of the appropriate permit from the Import Permits Section of this web site or contact Hill Laboratories office for a copy of the appropriate permit.

Other Important Points

Note: Sample Import Permits have an annual expiry date - please ensure that you are using the current Permit.

All imported samples are handled, stored and disposed of according to MAF Biosecurity approved procedures. This includes autoclaving or furnace destruction of samples a few months after testing.
