Import Permits & Overseas Samples

Introduction

Hill Laboratories is now the first MAF Approved Containment Facility at both the Hamilton Clyde Street and Innovation Park Laboratory Sites. This allows importation of various sample types and now includes Restricted Sample Types (New Organisms or GMO) from any Country, provided they are accompanied with the correct documentation.

To make finding the correct documentation required to import samples to Hamilton New Zealand easy for you we have set out below three documents that contain all the required information for different sample types.

Environmental Samples

Environmental samples include soil and/or water that is to be tested for contamination.  Attachment contains:

  • Customs declaration form
  • Procedure for sending overseas samples via airmail, aircargo or courier provider
  • Procedure for bringing in overseas samples in person
  • Import permit for laboratory specimens
  • Restricted Biological products of animal origin import permit
  • Preparation and submission of overseas samples

Agricultural Samples

Other Important Points

Note: Sample Import Permits have an annual expiry date - please ensure that you are using the current Permit.

All imported samples are handled, stored and disposed of according to MAF Biosecurity approved procedures. This includes autoclaving or furnace destruction of samples a few months after testing.
