Building Acquisition

Hill Laboratories operations in Hamilton take place at 4 sites. The recent purchase of 2 significant pieces of property in Hamilton East creates the potential for Hamilton operations to be centralised to one site in future.

Our company began operations from a small building in central Hamilton over 25 years ago, and since then has moved on a few occasions in the Hamilton area.
Our main laboratory, on Clyde St in Hamilton East, was formerly the Waikato District Council office. After initially tenanting only part of the building, we have grown to occupy all of it and to spread to other sites in the city as the business has grown.
These days our Air Quality and Microbiology testing functions are located at our Te Aroha St laboratory, and the Food & Bioanalytical Division is located at the
Waikato Innovation Park. The merger with Analytica has added a further facility to our Hamilton operations.
As with many businesses, the benefit of leasing versus owning our own buildings has been an ongoing topic of discussion over the years. In 2009, we took the opportunity to purchase the property housing our main laboratory on Clyde St in Hamilton East. And recently, when an adjacent site which was formerly used as a petrol station became available, we took the opportunity to acquire that as well.
This presents us with an opportunity to develop a facility to house all our Hamilton operations on one site. A master plan of how we might use these adjacent sites to achieve this is being developed at the moment.
Having all our operations on one site will enable us to improve our operational efficiency, both by allowing us to optimize sample flows, as well as eliminating time wasted as staff and samples travel between sites. Just as importantly, our staff will enjoy the opportunity to work more closely together, benefiting from a broader pool of staff located close by to work and socialise with.
